远方 | The Far Side

《远方》是一件为此次“2019 深港城市建筑双城双年展”特别创作的系列作品，由4幅以蓝晒印相法制作的数字红外图像构成。
通过使用近红外图像技术和蓝晒印相法，《远方》寻求着新晋探索的月球隐藏面（近期由中国航天飞机嫦娥四号拍摄）与大湾地区城市景象之间的联系。由同一种图像采集技术拍摄、组合、创造的的全景图让“近”与“远”、“已知”与“未知”，即我们身处的环境与遥远的太空区域，以及可见的与不可见的事物间产生了共鸣。通过观察和关联这些既遥远又熟悉、对我们而言不可见的领域，《远方》为重新发现它们提供了可能性。
The Far Side is a series of four digital infrared images printed in the form of cyanotypes. This work is specially created for the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism & Architecture in Shenzhen.
Using Near-Infrared imagery and cyanotype, the project seeks a connection between the far side of the moon, recently explored by Chinese space-rover Chang’e 4, and the urban landscape of the Bay Area. By depicting these landscapes through the same capture process, the combination of images creates a new panorama that brings into resonance the near and the distant - our immediate environment and the remote areas of space, the visible and the invisible - at the crossroads of the known and the unknown.
By observing and connecting these remote and familiar territories as they cannot appear to us, The Far Side creates the possibility of rediscovering them.

《幻象》让“龙卷风”这一自然现象以微弱、近乎消散的样貌在我们眼前重现。作品的实验性则指向冷战期间苏联和美国进行的地球工程研究。权力问题：每个人都试图以一种战略目标来改变气候或引发灾难。这种类型的研究一直持续到今天，但目的是为了克服全球变暖。
凝结的沸腾，由电光环构成的催眠漩涡，作品不仅是对物理体验的重现，同时还指向集体想象中对这种现象的“不朽”感受，正如Bachelard在《水与梦——论物质的想象》中所描述的那样：那些稍纵即逝的图像源自清澈明亮的水域，而神话和幻想的所在则位于黑暗深处。”
Delusion allows us to witness the reconstitution of a natural phenomenon: a tornado, but on a reduced scale as if defused. The experimental dimension of the sculpture refers to geoengineering research carried out in parallel by the Soviets and the Americans during the Cold War. Power issue: everyone was trying to transform the climate or provoke cataclysms with a strategic goal. This type of research continues today, but this time in the hope of overcoming global warming.
Frozen boil, hypnotic vortex with a deliberately electric aura, if the piece recreates a physical experience, it also refers to the immemorial perception of such phenomena in the collective imagination, as Bachelard described them in Water and dreams: " Clear, brilliant waters where fleeting images are born, to dark depths, where myths and fantasies lie. "

这部影像的拍摄地点是一个位于熔岩沙漠中的天文台附近，美国国家航天局曾在此测试过火星漫游者。同时，影像还记录了一座原始森林的景观，让我们得以对5000万年前的地球状况有一个大概的印象。影像的摄制借助了近红外成像技术，而这种技术通常被天文学家们用于观测宇宙的深处。作品还将无线电望远镜的数据转换成了音频，使得我们能够“听见”遥远恒星和浩瀚银河所发出的光脉动。《万象》颠覆了人们普遍认同的时空的尺度，在观众感到迷失的同时，一种集体的，敏感的体验成为了可能。

Hugo Deverchère, 6 works from Cosmorara - Recordings Installation View at Galerie Dumonteil, Shanghai
Cosmorama observes the world as it does not appear. Conceived like a journey from our close environment to the distant and unknown horizons of the cosmos, it reveals an imperceptible stratum of the light spectrum. The film questions our common perceptions and representations, it reintroduces notions such as the unknown, the uncertainty and oddity in our relationship with the world.
Shot in the surroundings of an observatory (in a lava desert where the NASA tested Martian rovers) and in a primitive forest which gives us an overview of the state of the world 50M years ago, the film uses a near-infrared imagery process with which astronomers usually observe the deep reaches of the universe. It also makes audible the light pulsations emitted by distant stars and galaxies by transposing radio-telescopes data into sound. By disrupting our usual spatiotemporal markers, Cosmorama allows the emergence of a sensitive and collective experience of pure perception.

雨果·德维切尔 (Hugo Deverchère)1988年出生于法国里昂，从国立高等装饰艺术学院毕业后，他于2016年-2018年进入位于图尔宽的法国国立当代艺术中心(Le Fresnoy - National Studio for Contemporary Arts)进修，以“研究院杰出贡献”称号荣誉毕业。德维切尔的作品曾在巴黎东京宫，法国当代艺术基金会(敦刻尔克)，上海明珠美术馆，鹿特丹国际电影节，哥本哈根国际纪录片节(CPH:DOX)，奥地利林茨电子艺术中心(Ars Electronica)以及蒙特利尔的新电影艺术节等机构展出。
在近乎科学逻辑的引导下，雨果·德维切尔的作品试图通过提供一系列形同踪迹的经历来质疑和重新评估我们与世界的联系。从故事到收集的数据，再到图像拍摄、搜集或创造，他的研究涉及多种方法，如建模、转置或转换等。
这些形状作为现实与其表现之间的棱镜而被制作出来。他们目睹了我们对世界的看法和我们所掌握的知识之间的差距。通过质疑想象力和集体记忆对我们感知现实的作用，艺术家想要强调现象和事件拥有不确定的、令人质疑的无形属性。
Born in 1988 in Lyon, France, Hugo Deverchère graduated from ENSAD Paris (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) and from Le Fresnoy - National Studio for Contemporary Arts. His work has recently been exhibited and screened in Palais de Tokyo (Paris FR), FRAC Grand Large (Dunkirk), Pearl Art Museum (Shanghai), the International Film Festival Rotterdam, CPH:DOX (Copenhagen), Ars Electronica (Linz) and the Festival du nouveau cinéma (Montreal).
Driven by an almost scientific approach, Hugo Deverchere’s work attempts to set up a body of experiences which are just as many ways to question and evaluate our relationship with the world. Whether based on stories, collected data, captured or simply found images, his research often involves processes such as modelization, conversion, and transposition.
The resulting forms act as a prism between reality and its representations, revealing the interval which separates our perception of the world and the knowledge and awareness we have of it. By questioning the role of imagination and collective memory in our approach to reality, the artist wishes to highlight phenomena and events which by their very nature are intangible and therefore remain subject to doubt and uncertainty.
