If you are looking for a dress watch, one of the go-to brands is Breguet – without a doubt. With this Breguet Classique 7147 as a prime example.
We previously featured the Breguet Classique 7147 Grand Feu, a new edition with an enamel dial. Quite nice, but this engine-turned silvered 18-carat gold dial with Roman numerals on a chapter ring and Breguet open-tipped hands is a bit more modern. Without losing the ‘dress watch’ appeal.
The Breguet Classique 7147 combines classic decorative techniques with a modern apeal
A fun piece of trivia about the motifs adorning the watches in the Breguet Classique collection. They are in fact inspired by the decorative codes applied in the early days of horology. Watch decoration was initially motivated by functional concerns. It served to avoid premature tarnishing and strengthened the fragile nature of clear or polished surfaces vulnerable to nicks, scratches or other ‘attacks’. Today, Breguet makes a point to honor these decorative techniques, for example with the silvered gold-dial on this Classique 7147.
The Breguet is powered by the in-house caliber 502.3 SD, an ultra-thin mechanical – only 2.4 millimeters – self-winding movement with an off-centered oscillating weight. This all is housed in a 40-millimeter case with a sapphire crystal case back to observe the movement, which has a balance-spring and escapement in silicon.
The Breguet Classique 7147 is available in white and rose gold and comes on a black or brown leather strap respectively.
