There are 17 towns in Luoding City. Luoding City generally refers to Luoding. Luoding is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. It is managed by Yunfu City. It was called Longzhou in ancient times, also known as Longxiang. The south is the traffic hub of the Xijiang Corridor. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as a huge defense and an important place for Fusui.

It used to be an important military town guarding the southwestern part of the Lingnan Mountains in Guangdong. It was known as "the pivot of the whole of Guangdong" and "the granary of Lingnan" in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Luoding is one of the most convenient passages connecting Guangdong and the Southwest, and is an important part of the "Pearl River-Xijiang Economic Belt".

Luoding has a vast plain landform and a unique basin climate. The central, northeastern and southern parts of Luoding City are basins and hilly areas. Luoding Basin is the largest basin in Guangdong. Luoding is one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural cities in Guangdong Province. In 2012, Luoding was included in the pilot fiscal reform of counties directly under Guangdong Province. In 2018, Luoding Industrial Transfer Industrial Park was recognized as "Circular Economy Industrial Park of Guangdong Province", and the first rural revitalization training college in Guangdong settled in Luoding.
