This is a yellow gold Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 3738J. The solid, two-body polished and brushed case has a rounded bezel, concealed lugs, and a sapphire crystal. The rare Tiffany dial is white with painted black Roman numeral hour index markers, black baton hands, and the alligator strap has a matching 18K yellow gold buckle. It's water resistant to 25 meters, and it has a 48-hour power reserve. The wafer-thin, 6 mm. case, dial, and movement are all signed. The Patek Caliber 240 ultra-thin mechanical self-winding movement is stamped with the Geneva Quality Mark. It's rhodium-plated with fausses cotes decoration. It's constructed with 18 jewels, 161 parts, a lever escapement, and a Gyromax balance adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions. The mechanism oscillates at 21,600 vibrations per hour. It includes a shock-absorber mechanism, a self-compensating flat balance-spring, and a mobile stud bearer. It has a 22K gold micro-rotor mounted on ball bearings, and a mono-directional winding crown. The ellipse shape is a hybrid form between the rectangle and the circle, engineered by Hippasus of Metapontum, the Greek mathematician who discovered the rule of the golden section around 450 B.C. This watch was first introduced by Patek in 1968 and it was discontinued/replaced in 2008 with a slightly larger case and a different movement, as the 5738; that year the Golden Ellipse had its 40th anniversary, making the line the second oldest by Patek Philippe next to the Calatrava. This is one of Patek Philippe's most recognizable, flagship timepieces.
