Personal interview ( households). Growing demand for detailed information. Need of increasing the sample size without a significant increase of the cost. 4 New sources and new modes of data collection
Use of administrative data in the construction of income variables. Implemented in 2013. - Improve the quality of income data. - Reduce the respondent burden. Use of alternative methods of data collection (CAWI, CATI). Planned. Will be explored in a pilot test in 2016. London workshop on best practices for EU-SILC revision

Addressed challenges: Legal Issues Technical Issues Availability of the Personal Identification Number Relevant income data in administrative files The personal identification number (PIN) The personal identification in Spain is the “NIF”, which is used in most administrative procedures. To obtain the NIF, since the 2009 survey the data collection has been adapted. London workshop on best practices for EU-SILC revision

6 99% of persons are identified.
From SILC 2009 : Some adaptations in fieldwork to collect the PIN : Before the interview, load of data of the Population Register (selected dwellings) in the CAPI program. During the interview, the interviewer matches the sample persons to the individuals living in the dwelling according to the Population Register. 23 Future of the modes of data collection
New demands in the production of indicators. The new methodology based in the use of administrative data makes possible the use of a shorter questionnaire. Opportunities to implement alternative modes of data collection (CAWI, CATI). Significant increase of the sample size without an excessive increase in the cost of the operation.
