A great place to while away a Spring Sunday

This was our third visit to these beautiful and relaxing gardens. Lots of different botanically themed areas, extensive parkland and lakes, a converted quarry and so on, which absorb the crowds well. Locals take their tents and picnics for the day. Quieter areas on the Western and Eastern edges. Basic canteen in the entrance hall, snacks available in the gardens, including delicious ice-cream. At least an hour from the city centre by car, also 15 mins taxi ride to subway line 9, make a day of the area and visit either Sheshan or Tianmashan nearby, the latter Shanghai’s highest point at around 100m above sea-level.

This is a nice to park to visit. It is very big so so you should plan to spend half a day here. There are big open spaces including a quarry park.
There are also three domes that are very similar to the ones in Singapore gardens by the bay. They have a good collection of tropical flowers as well as cactuses in these domes.

World class botanical gardens- with play areas for kids

This is a really nice park. The botanical gardens are great to walk around in. There are a lot of different themed areas. And there are a couple nice places for children to play at. Worth checking out.

Take Line 9 to Dongjing Station. Buses are available to the park, FOC. Park is super huge. A good variety of flowers and trees there. Plenty of families put up their tents and picnic there. Plenty of room for all. Park is well maintained.

Something for everyone

We have visited these fantastic and gigantic gardens twice in the last month. Plenty for all the family. Perfect for a day out, bring a picnic and find your perfect spot to set up a base to explore the gardens. For kids the pirate ship and children's zoo area will keep them busy. It costs 60 rmb to enter.

Hidden gem of a place

It’s a little bit in the middle of nowhere but well worth a visit. Lots of work still going on the develop the park. You can take a picnic and walk on the grass. There are all sorts of places to explore and things for kids to do. We did not see the whole park because it is huge

This place is marvellous at any time of the year. Chinese people love picnic: even in November we saw a lot of tents and blankets with hungry people eating on them. You can walk and lay on the grass, and there are also 2 children playgrounds, one of the, the pirates' ship wreck is gorgeous.
From Sheshan metro station bus 95 (5 stations), from the next metro station bus number 19 (7 stations), cca. 10 minutes ride, you can pay with metro card or cash, show the lady who collects the fee where do you want to go, the fee depends on the distance.

Travel by Metro Line 9 to Sheshan station. And then, go to bus stop in front of the Metro. You can take bus No.... 67 around 5 stations. Tickets 60RMB (Normal, I'm not sure), 30RMB (Student card).
This bus app will support you to travel in Shanghai.

Great park with few people inside!

Long subway ride for a tranquil walk in man-made nature. You have 3 greenhouses to visit, a petting zoo and walk in a cave. Enough to satisfy the curiosity of your children. The park doesn't have much to offer other than that. Bring some snacks!

How do I get there using public transportation?

The cheapest way to get there is line 9 Dongjing Station (洞泾) and then take the Bus No. 19 to Chen Shan Botanical Garden. Will cost around 10-15rmb one way.
The cab might cost around 25 RMB.
There are 9 parks each takes around an hour to see. You can commute between the parks by a bus. The bus ticket costs 10 RMB and has included all 9 parks (as in 9 separate trips so you choose when you want to hop on or off). The entrance to the park itself costs 30 RMB.
